AGM 2020 goes ahead via MS Teams

Posted

On Friday 1st May 2020 the MPS GCA held its first ever remote AGM through Microsoft Teams. In the associations 21 year history, all AGMs had been held in person until this day. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic effectively cancelled the occasion but the committee were able to pull it together online to avoid disruption and delay to association procedures.

Members from across the MPS were in attendance along with our VIP guest, Christos Karaolis, President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK (aka The Cypriot Federation). The meeting began with a moment of silence in memory of those lost by committee members recently, including all those lost or affected by the Coronavirus.

The guests were able to reflect on the achievements of the last 12 months during the delivery of the Chairpersons report, with particular praise given to the success of the Orthodox Easter Celebration at NSY. There was also a look ahead with a revision of the 2017 five year plan, as well as the introduction of Standard Operating Procedures.

Despite the lockdown and social distancing restrictions, the MPS GCA was still able to hold its award ceremony, thanks to the excellent service of Executive Trophies. Tom H-S was presented the Phedias Soteriou Award for outstanding efforts in representing the association. The Peter Savvas Award was given to Kyri G for outstanding dedication to the MPS GCA, whilst leading significant events for the MPS and through challenging personal circumstances. For outstanding service to the community, the first ever Chris Mikellides Award was presented to the Cypriot Federation and accepted by Christos Karaolis. And finally, for demonstrating a high level of commitment to the association during her service, Androulla Ioannou was awarded an Honorary Membership.

After a short break, the association accounts were discussed during the Treasurers report before Constitutional Amendments were considered and voted on anonymously using the Slido polling system. This was also utilised during the election of the committee, which resulted as follows:
